Pastor Wright welcomed her gifts and appointed her church secretary.  Somehow, her abilities exceeded administration and Reverend Smallwood become one of the church’s sharpest anointed trustees in its history.

On October 21, 2001 Reverend Smallwood announced that “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to bring good tidings to the poor, proclaim release of the captives and recover sight to the blind, to set a liberty those who are oppressed and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord!”  On January 20, 2002, Reverend Smallwood preached her initial sermon and was license to preach the Gospel at the New United Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Darin G. Freeman.  She served in various ministries including on the Ministerial Staff until joining Craig Memorial in 2004. One of her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1”I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth”.
